Frequently asked questions

Getting started

Do I need an account to watch together?

No. Opening a video and watching it together with a shared pause and seek works without an account — a room link is enough. A free account is needed only for chat, calls, screen sharing, stickers and reactions.

How do I watch a film with a friend who is far away?

Open KinoDuo, search for a film by name or paste a video link. The service creates a room and gives you a link — send it to your friend in any messenger. The moment they open it you are in the same room and playback runs in sync.

Do I need to install anything?

No. KinoDuo runs straight in the browser — no app and no extension to install. Any modern browser on a computer, phone or tablet will do.

How much does it cost?

Synced watching is free and stays free. There is a $1.99 monthly subscription with no auto-renewal: it removes ads, raises the room to 16 people, adds a badge by your name, twice as many sticker packs and an animated avatar.

What is a room?

A room is a page with a shared video and its own short code in the address. Everyone with the link watches the same thing at the same moment. A room lives while someone is in it and disappears 30 minutes after the last person leaves.

What you can watch

What can I play in a room?

A file from your own computer, a direct video link, YouTube, VK Video and RUTUBE. You can also search for a film or series by name — the service finds available sources — or share your screen.

Can we watch YouTube together?

Yes. Paste the link to the clip — it opens for everyone in the room, and pause and seek stay shared. VK Video and RUTUBE work the same way.

Can I play a file from my own computer?

Yes, and it is the most private way: the file is never uploaded and never leaves your device. The other person opens the same file on their side, and the service keeps the playback position identical for both.

Can we watch a series episode by episode?

Yes. When you search a series by name you can pick the season, the episode and the dub. Switching episodes does not require leaving the room.

Can I share my screen with a friend?

Yes, screen sharing is available to signed-in users. It helps when the video is open in an app or on a site you cannot otherwise bring into the room.

With friends

How many people can watch at once?

Up to eight people in one room, or sixteen with a subscription. Pause, seek and playback speed match for everyone.

How do I invite a friend?

Press “Invite” and send the link. If the person is already in your friends list you can call them straight from the room — they get a notification with a “Join” button.

Is there a chat and voice calling?

Yes. A room has text chat, voice and video calls. Audio goes directly between participants, and while you are silent the microphone is dimmed so your background is not transmitted.

What are stickers and reactions?

Reactions are short icons that pop up over the frame. Stickers can be stuck onto the video itself and moved around, and there is also drawing: you can sketch over the frame to point at a detail.

Can I add friends?

Yes. Everyone has a login by which they can be found. The friends list, invitations and notifications live in your profile, and inviting a friend into a room takes one click.

Quality and devices

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The interface adapts to a small screen: chat opens as its own panel and secondary buttons hide under “More”. Syncing behaves exactly as it does on a computer.

Can I choose the video quality?

If the source offers several qualities they appear in the player settings — from 240p to 1080p. Switching does not break the sync: the playback position is kept.

The video stutters or has drifted out of sync — what should I do?

Press “Resync” under the player and the service pulls your position back to the shared one. Drift usually comes from participants having different connection speeds.

What is the glow around the video?

It is a reflection of the frame — it picks up the colours of the picture and softly lights the background around the player. You can switch it off in the settings if it bothers you.

Is there a dark theme?

Yes, the theme is switched by a button in the top bar and remembered in your browser. By default the service follows your system setting.

Privacy and account

Is the video uploaded to your server?

No. A file never leaves your device, links are opened by your browser directly, and calls go between participants. The server only synchronises the playback position.

Who can get into my room?

Only someone who has the link. The room code is random, rooms are not indexed by search engines, and once everyone leaves the room disappears.

What happens to the chat messages?

The room itself shows the recent messages while it is alive. A copy of the conversation is stored in the database in case a complaint has to be looked into — it is not shown to other participants. The details are in the privacy policy.

How do I delete my account?

Write to us — the account will be closed, the login and the email address will be freed up, and they can be registered again. If you need the data physically erased, say so: on such a request we erase it completely.
